I kicked off 2024 on a positive note with some good books. I picked up my pace after reading Benyamin’s “Pravachakanmarude Randam Pusthakam”, Then I finished “Orikkal” from N. Mohanan.  Both were excellent books by veteran writers with their unique language skills. My third attempt was Ram ℅ ANANDHI written by a talented young author, Akhil P Dharmajan.  One of the reasons I chose to read this book was the marketing and branding behind it. I always admired effective marketing work done with minimal effort. Being a marketing professional, I firmly believe that the greatest marketing is organically built word-of-mouth publicity.  Before reading the book, I noticed that many of my friends shared endorsements for this work and many romantic reels were flooding my Instagram feed featuring the epic reading experience of this book. കാവേരി നദിയുടെ തീരത്തു സ്ഥിതി ചെയ്യുന്ന പ്രൗഢ  ഗംഭീരമായ  രാജനഗരിയാണ് തഞ്ചാവൂർ. തെന്നിന്ത്യ അടക്കി വാണിരുന്ന ചോളന്മാരുടെ രാജ്യ തലസ്ഥാനം. ദ്രവീഡിയൻ വാസ്തുവിദ്യയുടെ പെരുമ ലോകത്തോട്  വിളിച്ചോതുന്ന ഒരുപാട് കെട്ടിടങ്ങളുള്ള വലിയ നഗരം. ഈ വർഷമാദ്യം റിപ്പബ്ലിക്ക് ദിനത്തോട് ചേർന്ന് കിട്ടിയ 3 വിലപ്പെട്ട അവധി ദിവസങ്ങളിൽ ഞാനും രോഹിനും കൂടി പോകാൻ തീരുമാനിച്ചത് തഞ്ചാവൂർക്കായിരുന്നു.  വ്യാഴാഴ്ച വൈകുന്നേരം ജോലി കഴിഞ്ഞു ഞാൻ കുന്നംകുളത്തു നിന്നും രോഹിൻ മലപ്പുറത്ത് നിന്നും നേരെ ത്രിശൂർ ഉള്ള രോഹിൻ്റെ വീട്ടിലേക്ക് ആദ്യം വന്നു. രാത്രി 12 15 നാണു ട്രെയിൻ.  എറണാകുളം കാരക്കൽ എക്സ്പ്രെസ്സിൽ ആണ് ഞങ്ങൾ ടിക്കറ്റ് ബുക്ക് ചെയ്തിരുന്നത്. ഒന്നര മാസം മുൻപ് 3 ടിയർ AC  ബുക്ക് ചെയ്തിട്ടു വെയ്റ്റിംഗ് ലിസ്റ്റിലാണ്  കിട്ടിയത്. യാത്ര തിരിക്കുന്നതിൻ്റെ തലേന്ന് RAC പോലും ആകാത്തതിനാൽ 2 സ്ലീപ്പർ തത്കാൽ ടിക്കറ്റുകൾ ഒരു ഉറപ്പിന് ബുക്ക് ചെയ്തു വച്ചു. അവസാനം സ്ലീപ്പർ ടിക്കറ്റിൽ തന്നെ അങ്ങോട്ടും ഇങ്ങോട്ടും യാത്ര ചെയ്യേണ്ടതായി വന്നു. ട്രെയിനിലെ സൗകര്യങ്ങളും അന്തരീക്ഷവും പ്രതീക്ഷിച്ച പോലെ തന്നെ മോശമായിരുന...

It's been a while since I have been thinking about writing something. Months ago I watched an Adventure-Comedy-Drama film called Pachuvum Athbutha Vilakkum (Malayalam 2023). There's not too much to boast about that film, since it provided me with a rather average cinematic experience. But there's something noteworthy about how some of the male characters were portrayed. They were infused with subtle yet impactful elements that, in my opinion, can inspire the audience to adopt a more modern and progressive outlook. How often do we see men cook passively and passionately as it's their duty? Take Pachu’s father for instance, Pachu’s mother is abroad with his sister and his father manages his house to himself.  He cooks, cleans, and does all the household work. What stands out as particularly impressive is that this isn't portrayed as an added difficulty or an exaggerated male trait, but rather as something inherently natural and ordinary.  Personally, I like to cook, I...

  W hen was the last time you found yourself at a loss for words when discussing taboo subjects like sex and prostitution, which society often considers off-limits? Well,  for me it was during my placement training. I was supposed to give a public statement about the subject of prostitution and I got stuck. Despite having a considerable understanding of the subject and knowing important points, everything seemed to turn upside down. While stage fright may have played a role, I genuinely believe there's more to it. It was not that bright spot of a memory in my mind but sometimes it reveal itself.  Today I watched a bold and beautiful movie titled “Good Luck to You, Leo Grande” and this reignited that memory that had long been dormant in my mind.  The film portrays Nancy Stokes, a widow in her 60’s, and her strange encounter with Leo Grande, a young, handsome sex worker.  Some people may travel throughout the world after retirement, and some may engage in adventur...

“........... ഭാരതഭൂമി തെക്ക് കന്യാകുമാരി തൊട്ട് വടക്കു ഹിമാലയം വരെ വർഷങ്ങൾ നീണ്ട ദേശാടനം, അതിൽ എണ്ണിയാലൊടുങ്ങാത്ത സംവാദങ്ങൾ.. അതെല്ലാം ജയിച്ചു ഒരു വിജ്ഞാനദാഹിക്കെത്താൻ പറ്റുന്ന ഏറ്റവും വലിയ സ്ഥാനമായ സർവ്വജ്ഞ പീഠം കയറാൻ തയ്യാറായി പോകുന്ന ശ്രീ ശങ്കരാചര്യർ… അയാൾക്ക് കുറുകെ ചണ്ഡാല വേഷം അണിഞ്ഞു എതിര് വരുന്ന ശ്രീ പരമേശ്വരൻ.. അവര് തമ്മിലുള്ള സംഭാഷണം - സംവാദങ്ങൾ….”  ചെറുപ്പത്തിൽ ഞാൻ വായിച്ചു പഠിച്ച ഒരു കഥയാണിത്. കൃത്യതയോ പൂർണ്ണതയോ ഇല്ലാതെ ഓർമ്മകളിൽ ചിലയിടത്തെല്ലാം ഈ കഥ ഇപ്പഴുമുണ്ട്. സർവ്വജ്ഞപീഠമായി മഞ്ഞു നിറഞ്ഞ ഉയരം കൂടിയ ഒരു സ്ഥലത്തിൻ്റെ ചിത്രവും  അതുപോലെ ശങ്കരന് എതിരെ നിന്ന് സംസാരിക്കുന്ന ചണ്ഡാളൻ്റെ രൂപവും ഓർമ്മയിലുണ്ട്.  സർവ്വജ്ഞ പീഠം ഹിമാലയത്തിൽ ആണെന്ന് വിശ്വാസിക്കുന്ന ഒരുപാട് പേരുണ്ട്, എന്നാൽ കൊല്ലൂർ മൂകാംബിക ക്ഷേത്രത്തിനു സമീപം കൊടജാദ്രി മലനിരകളിൽ സ്ഥിതി ചെയ്യുന്ന സർവ്വജ്ഞ പീഠം കാണാൻ പോയ കഥയാണിത്.   മൂകാംബിക - കുടജാദ്രി പോകണം എന്നുള്ള ആഗ്രഹാം ബി ടെക്ക് പഠിക്കുന്ന  സമയം തൊട്ടേ മനസിലുള്ളതാണ്. പരിചയമുള്ള ചിലര് പോയി വന്നു പറഞ്ഞു കേട്ട കഥകളും പലയിടത്തു ഇത് പോലെ വാ...

              ചില വായനകൾക്കിടയിൽ മനസ്സിൽ തെളിയുന്ന ഒരു കറുത്ത നിറമുള്ള കയമുണ്ട്.ആദ്യമായി അത് തെളിഞ്ഞു കണ്ടത് കെ ആർ മീരയുടെ  യൂദാസിൻ്റെ സുവിശ്ശേഷം എന്ന കഥ  വായിച്ചപ്പോഴായിരുന്നു. പിന്നീട് പലപ്പോഴും നിറമില്ലാത്ത ജീവിതങ്ങളുടെ കഥകളിൽ അരികു ചേർന്നു നടക്കുമ്പോൾ മനസ്സിൽ ആ കയവും അതിൽനിന്നു മുങ്ങിയെടുക്കുന്ന ജീവർണ്ണിച്ച ശവശരീരങ്ങളും തെളിഞ്ഞു വരും. ഈയടുത്തു പിന്നെയും പിന്നെയും ഞാൻ ആ കയം കണ്ടത് ഉദകപ്പോള വായിച്ചപ്പോഴായിരുന്നു.  ഫേസ്‌ബുക്കിലെ ഒരു വായന  ഗ്രൂപ്പിൽ നിന്നാണ് ഉദകപ്പോള എന്ന പുസ്തകത്തെ പറ്റി ആദ്യമായി കേൾക്കുന്നത്. വിഖ്യാത എഴുത്തുകാരനും സംവിധായകനുമായ പദമരാജൻ്റെ കയ്യൊപ്പു പതിഞ്ഞ പുസ്തകം, തൂവാനത്തുമ്പികൾ ആ പുസ്തകത്തിൽ നിന്ന് ഉരുത്തിരിഞ്ഞു വന്ന സിനിമയാണെന്ന് അറിഞ്ഞപ്പോൾ തൊട്ടേ ആ പുസ്തകം തേടിപ്പിടിച്ചു വായിക്കണമെന്നു ഉറപ്പിച്ചതാണ്. ഒരുപാട് നാൾ ആ പുസ്തകം അന്വേഷിച്ചു നടന്നു.  ഓൺലൈൻ അവൈലബിൾ ആയിരുന്നു, പക്ഷെ ഓർഡർ ചെയ്തു കിട്ടുന്നത് മോശം കോപ്പികൾ ആവുമോ എന്ന ഭയം കാരണം വേണ്ട എന്ന് വെക്കുകയായിരുന്നു. തൃശ്ശൂര് പോകുന്ന സമയത്തൊക്കെ...
